With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to our beloved Brenda Joyce Hammett Oxendine of Johnson City, Tennessee. Brenda, who was 80 years old, passed away on September 28, 2023. During this difficult time, let us come together as a community to offer our support and share our condolences with her family.
Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, Alonzo Homer and Dorothy Mildred Ogle Hammett, her beloved husband Winston E. Oxendine, Sr., and her brothers Richard and Ronald Hammett.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Winston E. Oxendine, Jr. (Julia) and John C. Oxendine (Michele), as well as her grandchildren: Gabe Oxendine (Lindsey), Lukas Oxendine (Donna), Logan, and Madison Oxendine. Brenda’s warmth and love extended even further as she also leaves behind five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
To honor Brenda’s life, a visitation will be held on Monday, October 2nd, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM at the Appalachian Funeral Home & Cremation Services, located at 800 E Watauga Ave, Johnson City, TN 37601. Following the visitation, a solemn funeral service will take place at the same location at 6:30 PM. On Tuesday, October 3rd, 2023, at 10:50 AM, we will gather for a burial service, immediately followed by a committal service at 11:00 AM at the Mountain Home National Cemetery in Mountain Home, TN 37684.
During this challenging time, the family kindly requests that memorial donations in Brenda’s name be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. Contributions can be submitted by mail at woundedwarriorproject.org, or by phone at 855-448-3997.
