We gather here today with heavy hearts to honor and remember the life of Karen Gwenn Holmes, a beloved member of our community. Karen peacefully passed away on October 13, 2023, at the age of 71, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever hold a special place in our hearts.

During this difficult time, we extend our deepest sympathies to Karen’s family and friends, who have been deeply impacted by this loss. In memory of our dear Karen, we invite you to join us in sending comforting thoughts and prayers to her loved ones, offering solace and support during their time of grief and remembrance.

Karen’s strong spirit and unwavering love will forever be etched in our minds. She was a pillar of strength, a devoted wife to Richard “Rick” Holmes, and a loving mother to her children, Courtney Depew and her husband Chris “Kit,” Shawn Hill and his wife Jessie, and Ashley Hill. In addition to her roles as a wife and mother, Karen held a special place in her heart for her mother, Helen Shipley Nelms, and her siblings, Kay Overbey and her husband Doug, as well as Tim Shipley and his wife Tabitha. Karen’s love and compassion extended beyond her immediate family, touching the lives of numerous nieces and nephews who will always carry her memory in their hearts.

To honor Karen’s life, a graveside service will be held on Sunday, October 15th, 2023, at 2:00 PM, at the tranquil Light Cemetery located at 398 Light Cemetery Rd., Rogersville, TN 37857. The serene surroundings of the cemetery will serve as the perfect backdrop to reflect on the beautiful moments we shared with Karen and find comfort in each other’s presence.

As we bid farewell to Karen today, let us remember her with fondness, drawing strength from cherished memories and the unbreakable bond we shared. May her soul find eternal peace, and may her family find solace in the love and support of one another, as well as the comforting presence of our community.

May Karen’s memory be a blessing, and may we find solace in the everlasting love that surrounds us all.
