In the tranquil embrace of our Heavenly Father, we pause to remember and honor the illustrious life of Stephen Kepiro, Jr., a beacon of love, faith, and dedication, who departed from this world to his eternal home on Wednesday, September 6, 2023. Born in the scenic lands of Nyirbogat, Hungary, Stephen lived an exemplary 99 years, touching countless lives with his warm spirit and unwavering faith.
After an adventurous journey from Hungary to the farmlands of Nova Scotia, Stephen, or Steve as he was fondly known, alongside his parents, embraced a life of resilience, working diligently in coal mines before settling in the heart of Chester County. His industrious nature was evident when, after 35 dedicated years at G.O. Carlson, he channeled his admiration for nature by establishing the Highland Nursery in 1983. His infectious enthusiasm for trees and life made the nursery not just a place of business, but a haven where the community converged, and where Steve’s laughter and wisdom resonated.
A devout man of God, Stephen’s spiritual journey was vast. From the Church of the Open Bible in Parkesburg to the Safe Harbor Baptist Church in Cochranville, his faith remained unshaken. His zest for life was intertwined with his profound relationship with Jesus, which he enthusiastically shared with every visitor at the nursery. Philanthropy was a cornerstone of his life, and he generously supported numerous missions, bearing testament to his expansive heart.
A doting father and a cherished grandfather, Stephen’s legacy continues through his daughters: Nancy, Marjorie, and Diane; his nine grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. His memories are also lovingly held by his brother, Tebor, and a multitude of friends and well-wishers. As we bid adieu, we remember his late wives, Helen and Pauline, and his siblings, Pearl, Alex, and Joe, who have welcomed him into the heavenly abode.
The final tribute to Stephen will be held at Gateway Church, Parkesburg, PA, on Saturday, September 23, 2023. We invite friends and family to join us in celebrating his life during the visitation hour from 9:30-10:30 AM, with the service commencing at 10:30 AM, followed by the burial ceremony.
In Stephen’s memory, and as a reflection of his charitable spirit, we kindly request donations to Samaritan’s Purse in lieu of flowers, ensuring his spirit of giving endures.
Our sincere gratitude to the Wilde Funeral Home, Parkesburg, PA, for overseeing the arrangements, and to every soul that Stephen touched, for enriching his journey and ours.
