With deep sadness, we share the news that William F. Gay, a beloved husband, father, and friend, peacefully passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2023, in Cochranville, PA, at the age of 93. His heart longed to be reunited with his late wife, Donna Ruth Liggett Gay, who departed from us in 2019. Born in Coatesville, PA, William was the cherished son of the late John T. and Pearl Romig Gay.
Throughout his life, William was a steadfast presence in his community. He blossomed into a fine young man and graduated from Scott High School in 1948, forging a path of constant growth and learning. A true patriot, he served his country with great honor and distinction in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Rising through the ranks, he earned the esteemed title of Sergeant 1st Class. After his military service, William pursued a career as an electrician, dedicating himself to craftsmanship and precision. Additionally, he found solace and camaraderie as a valued member of the Skerrett Masonic Lodge #343 in Cochranville.
William is survived by his loving children, William F. Jr. (Tammy) of North Norwich, NY, John Lewis Gay (Francine) of Homeville, PA, Cheryl Ann Silveri (Jonathan) of Cochranville, and Timothy E. Gay (Karen) of Christiana. His legacy continues through his 10 adoring grandchildren, 7 precious great-grandchildren, and even a great-great-grandchild, all of whom brought immense joy and pride to his life. William also leaves behind siblings who shared a special bond with him: Norma Lou Davis, Barbara Jean Chenger, Charles Louis Gay, James E. Gay, and George A. Gay. However, he was predeceased by his beloved granddaughter, Jade Reel, and siblings, Margaret Pierce, Gloria A. Lyons, Dorothy M. Kidderman, Betty I. Hindman, John T. Gay Jr., and Judith Hess.
